The 2009 Team was arguably the strongest team ever in Mt. Hope history. The squad finished 8-4 in the difficult Metropolitan Division which is the best dual meet record ever for a Mt. Hope team. The team qualified for the state championship by finishing 6th at the Class B Championship to grab the first of two available state meet spots. Senior Meghan McMullen led the way placing 24th followed closely by Junior Victoria Pereira, 28th and Madelaine Dennis in 31st place. Mari Canders 45th, Kiley Quinn 48th, Andrea Pereira 64th and Jocelyn Alexandre 65th rounded out the finishers. The following week the team placed 15th of 18 teams at Ponaganset High School, The 15th place finish is the 2nd highest finish at states for a Mt. Hope team and marked the first time Mt. The girls team qualified for the Rhode Island State Championship in the first year of Mt. Hope's existence, a huge accomplishment! Mt. Hope would go 11 years before qualifying as a team again. At the Class B Championship meet the team finished tied for 4th place with Westerly for the last state qualifying spot. Danielle Levesque 6th and Jen Cavallaro 7th led the way with Judy Alves taking 24th place. However 6th runner Julie Vedro's finish was the deciding factor as she beat Westerly's 6th runner to break the tie and send the huskies to states. At the State Championship at Bryant College the team placed 13th led by Levesque's 34th place finish. The team's places at states and class are still the highest to date for a Mt. Hope team. |
